openAI

The mission of OpenAI is to ensure AGI benefits all of humanity, which means both building safe and beneficial AGI and helping create broadly distributed benefits. We are now sharing what we've learned about achieving our mission, and some facts about our relationship with Elon. We intend to move to dismiss all of Elon’s claims. Example footnote.

Elon Musk sought to merge OpenAI into Tesla beginning February 2018, when the agreement wasn't resolved he claimed to be developing his own AGI competitor within Tesla, leaving in late February 2018. In December 2018 Elon sent more emails that raising a million wouldn't be enough[1]. The lawsuit filed on February 29th by Musk alleges a breach of contract, staing that the startup is now functioning as a for-profit company. One such example was GPT-4 being released as a Microsoft product. Musk seeks to make OpenAI's research and technology openly available to the public[2]

Several staff researchers wrote a letter to the board of directors concerning powerful discoveries that could threaten humanity (which was later confirmed to be Q*). Prior to his removal, Altman was intent on having Helen Toner removed from the board for her contributions to a paper[3] where ChatGPT is criticized.
